Looking for inspiration for what to do with the humble stale loaf
@anna2, try making a strata. It’s almost like a savory bread and butter pudding. You can add whatever you want to it so it’s really versatile. Here’s an example recipe:
Of course the first two are breadcrumbs and bread pudding, BUT some of those others made my mouth water and and I am not even hungry
My favourites: Definitely French Toast!! But the Italian salad, meatballs and Casse-croûte looked delicious too
@dalayrobertson That looks delicious!!! Kind of like a breakfast casserole
Looks yummy, thank you!
If its brown bread or sourdough you can fry it in pieces in butter and chopped garlic. Perfect snack with beer in Russia
You could also make croutons, they last for a long time and are a great addition for soups and salads!
Oooh! Sounds interesting! What is this called in Russia?
Grenki are no exception: black bread, sliced into bite-sized pieces, fried in oil and smothered in crushed garlic, salt, and shredded cheese. It’s not caviar and Sovietskoe Champagne by any means, but at about $1.10 a plate, grenki are the perfect beer snack and my new favorite Russian food.26 juni 2008

You can also make soup with stale bread
Jamie Oliver has a recipe for Bread & Tomato soup which looks delicious: https://www.jamieoliver.com/recipes/bread-recipes/bread-and-tomato-soup-pappa-al-pomodoro/
You could make either french toast or crutons! Both are delicious and easy to make and can be made with stale bread☺️
Brazilian “Rabanada”. It’s similar to french toast, we eat during Christmas!
I think our tweedy pie friends would love some bread
My family uses leftover bread for fishing.
Fry in a pan with butter and then turn it in a pkate of sugar and cinnamon. Weekend breakfast Nommmm.
In Spain we make “torrijas” which is pretty similar to french toast.
Put oven on hottest heat. Sprinkle loaf liberally with water. When oven hot place on baking sheet and pop loaf in oven for 5 mins. Now you have a fresh loaf. Thanks to my late Dad for that!
Sounds like fried Grenki https://www.rbth.com/russian_kitchen/2017/05/30/fried-grenki-how-to-make-use-of-stale-bread_773340
I agree it’s so simple and delicious a classic I’m my kitchen😊
